about jennifer

Everything that happens outside the studio informs what happens inside the art.

I’m a process-focused artist, creating vibrant energetic artworks to connect with people at an emotional level. Nature is the subject of my work—sometimes recognizable, sometimes implied. My purpose is to connect with nature and bring my findings back to the studio to energetically layer into paintings to share with viewers.

There are many reasons we need tranquility in our lives. It could be past trauma, mental health management, or the fact we live in a fast-paced society with an abundance of information and everyday stressors. Nature isn’t always available to us, and for me it’s the quickest source of solace. It’s my purpose to create artworks that will emotionally connect others with the feeling of peace found in nature, and I’m lucky to be planted in an area that boasts so many forms of it—from water, to valleys, to mountains, to woods.

The artmaking process is my focus and it begins in nature. It could be a walk in the woods, sitting by the water, or keenly observing the season. I take time to connect, physically and emotionally, with an environment. When back in the studio, I’ll recall my findings directly onto canvas and begin intuitively layering ideas through painting. The goal is to communicate my discoveries through artwork and provide the same sense of tranquility to the viewer that I experienced in nature.

I’ll work instinctively on a painting until it’s complete with compositional balance and a sense of serenity. I like to integrate relevant botanicals, creatures, textures, color, and patterns. I incorporate a variety of materials for contrast and complexity—pastels, acrylic paint, inks, charcoal, gold leaf, etc.

Currently I’m channeling an abundance of color and optimism through springtime and early summer flowers. For me, it’s the antidote to the heaviness of what’s happening locally, nationally, and globally. I plan to integrate and explore the colorful floral faces into my paintings until I feel the pull to do something different.
